Belly Dancing at Anatoli - A Real Treat!

Owned and managed by Tayfun Aras, Anatoli is housed in a 100 year old Victorian warehouse and has been serving up Cape Town's best Turkish food since 1984.
Almost too hot to touch, freshly baked flat breads are carried to the tables to accompany the meze presented on oversized trays. As is the tradition, waiters will explain the mezes available, numbering over 20 in total. Due to the infinite variety of fish, meat, fruits and vegetables produced in Turkey and the numerous cultures that took roots in ancient Anatolia, contemporary Turkish food is amazingly varied. At Anatoli Restaurant the main dishes available reflect this variety.
Most people with even a mildly adventurous palate have heard of, or tried Baklava or Kadayif. These two flaky pastries dominate Anatoli's dessert tray, amoungst other delicious sweets.
Come and enjoy this amazing cuisine and experience a slice of Turkey.

Workshops on offer:
10am - Sword dancing with Tenille
Learn how to handle a sword, balancing techniques and tricks of the trade for floor work, spinning and framing. Please bring a scarf or headband, and let me know if you will be bringing your own sword (I have 10 swords for participants to borrow if you don't have your own). Enjoy the sense of power and control that dancing with a sword brings! Perfect your isolations and learn a few tricks of the trade that will help with spinning, balancing and presentation of a dramatic sword performance.
11:30am - Introduction to Burlesque with Lady Magnolia
Learn the basics of peeling, strutting and pin up posing with Lady Magnolia. Fun, sexy and tantalizing, burlesque is a great way to gain confidence and feel good about your body! Please dress up for this workshop, short skirts, heels etc.
2:30 - Cheeky drum solo/shimmy workshop with Genevieve
Learn a variety of shimmies, Accents with shimmies, Cheeky drum solo combos, Facial expressions to "give life to the performance". Music appreciation section - what rhythms for Combos, traveling and accents.
4pm - Glamorous stage make up application with Scarlit Hearts
Come join us and learn all the tricks of the trade needed to create a gorgeous smoky stage look. This rare makeup workshop will be presented by a former MAC makeup artist and current performer Genevieve Eyre. She will share the secrets she has learnt through her experience so you can create your own sultry stage make up look.

Annual Show 2010

International Belly Dance Day 2010
In 2009 the Feminine Divine hosted the first South African celebration of International Belly Dance Day and it was a huge success!
We are very excited to host the 2nd festival and expect dancers from studios all over Cape Town to attend... So far there are 17 studios participating in the event!Each studio will present a 7 minute group performance slot so there will be lots of beautiful dancing to see as well as gorgeous costumes to admire! There will be vendors of foods and drinks as well as pamper products, belly dance costumes and things to tickle your fancy!
Even if you will not be performing at this event, please bring all your family and friends and come and support us! Entrance fee for spectators is R30 at the door. All proceeds raised from this day of celebration will be donated to our studio charity, St George's Home for Girls in Wynberg. Last year we raised over R6000 for the charity at this event. Please note that all performers are requested to pay R15 entrance fee towards the costs of venue hire etc - remember all funds raised on the day will be donated to charity!
The highlight of the day is our record setting attempt where everyone at the festival is invited to learn a short 1 minute drum solo which we will all perform together. Last year we had over 200 dancers performing together... This year we are aiming for 300!! Please participate in this event!! There is something very special about performing with so many happy, united, excited women!

International Belly Dance Day 2009
Women all over the world will be celebrating Middle Eastern dance on the 9th May 2009 - the art that we all love so passionately! Cape Town's studios' will be joining hands (and hips) in the love of the dance and standing together, united as women and dancers.- Venue: Cape Academy of Maths and Science - Firgrove Way, Constantia. (Main Hall)

The proceeds raised from the days events will be donated to St George's Home for Girls in Wynberg
What can you expect at this event?
- Lindie Lila will open the festival with live music from her Goddess selection and we are hoping to have some Middle Eastern influenced live music for a bit of a dance jam session too!
- Performances by Cape Towns leading belly dance studios. Each studio will have a 5 minute slot to present their group dances
- Belly Dance Fashion show - where designers, producers and vendors of belly dance fashion; accessories etc will have the opportunity to showcase their wares.
- Record breaking performance - finally, there will be a 45 minute lesson for all belly dancers at the festival where we will all learn a short drum solo, which all the dancers will then perform together... We are hoping to set a South African record for the most dancers ever performing together!! Let's aim for at least 500 dancers!! Please, participation in this particular section is really encouraged, as the more dancers we are, the more likely we are to set a world record!

- Food stalls with middle eastern inspired food and drink to satisfy your appetite.

We have some activities lined up including solo performances by FD students (their solo debut!) so it will be well worth attending this event!

Show dress rehearsal for Studio Show - compulsory for all show performers!
SATURDAY 9TH AUGUST 2008 - Annual Studio Show! Both our afternoon and evening shows were totally sold out... that means 2000 people in the audience!!
Our cast of 200 dancers were spectacular and wowed the crowd with their feminine grace and strength!!
We donated the proceeds of the afternoon show to St George's Home for Girls and St Anne's Home for Girls who were thrilled to be nominated as our beneficiaries this year! 25 girls from St Georges were invited to watch the show and they were the most rapt of all the audience members!
Congratulations to all the Feminine Divine Goddesses! You really did show the audience what real beauty is all about!

The segment was filmed at my home in Tokai where I originally started teaching from my lounge. After the Top Billing feature I had to move to a larger venue as the response was incredible!
DJ Suga participated in the class and loved it!
Thanks to the support of the Feminine Divine students we managed to raise sufficient funds so that The Feminine Divine could subsidise 50% of each teachers course fee! The Feminine Divine donated 1250 easter eggs to the Red Cross Childrens Hospital to make the patients Easter a little brighter! Thank you to all the Goddesses who donated eggs!
We managed to collect a huge amount of food, blankets and warm clothes to donate to the refugees at the Soetwater camp! Thank you to everyone who contributed!
